Brand punishes clustered teams by spreading Blaze, detonating stacked targets, and bouncing Pyroclasm through nearby units. Counter him by spreading before his combo, avoiding predictable stun setup, and leaving enough distance between valuable targets that one burn does not become teamwide damage.
Quick Counter
Best counter type: Spread positioning, stun dodging, magic durability, and burst pressure
Biggest danger: Several teammates standing close enough for Blaze explosions and Pyroclasm bounces to chain through the formation
Best defensive response: Spread immediately when Brand begins stacking Blaze and avoid standing beside already burning allies
Best punish window: After Sear misses or Pyroclasm is spent
Fight plan: Break the cluster, dodge the stun, isolate the ultimate bounces, then close on Brand before another full burn rotation is ready.
What Brand wants
Several enemies close enough for Blaze and Pyroclasm to spread repeatedly.
A Blazed target lined up for Sear to create a reliable stun.
A long enough fight for burn damage and passive detonations to finish multiple targets.
Opponents who remain grouped after the first ability connects.
How to beat Brand
Spread before Brand reaches a full combo. Distance between teammates directly reduces how much his passive and ultimate can multiply damage.
If you are already Blazed, move more carefully around Sear. The projectile becomes much more dangerous because it can convert into a stun.
Do not stand next to a low-health burning teammate simply to protect them; that can create another bounce or explosion target.
After Sear misses, pressure Brand quickly. His ability to stop a diver is much weaker without the stun threat.
Best counter tools
Spread positioning that denies passive explosions and ultimate bounces.
Gap closing after Sear is spent.
Magic resistance or shields that survive the initial burn rotation.
Burst that punishes Brand’s limited mobility.
Power spikes
Early: His poke is manageable until Blaze enables reliable follow-up control and passive detonation pressure.
Mid: Grouped fights become extremely dangerous if several targets remain within bounce and explosion distance.
Late: His area damage remains lethal, but disciplined spacing can dramatically reduce how many people each rotation affects.
Key abilities to track
Sear: The projectile becomes a stun against a Blazed target. Once marked, prioritize lateral movement and avoid giving Brand an easy straight line.
Pyroclasm: The ultimate gains enormous value from nearby bounce targets. Spacing removes the repeated hits that make the spell so punishing.
Best items into Brand
Mercury's Treads: Useful when Brand and the enemy composition provide enough magic damage and crowd control to justify defensive boots.
Stasis Enchant: Can deny a large portion of burn and follow-up damage during Brand’s committed combo.
Banshee's Veil: A strong option for suitable casters when blocking the first decisive spell helps prevent the stun sequence.
Common mistakes
Standing close together after the first Blaze stack lands.
Moving predictably while Blazed and Sear is available.
Grouping around a burning low-health teammate.
Failing to punish Brand after his stun projectile misses.
Fight them in this order
1. Spread before Brand gets multiple Blaze stacks into the formation.
2. If marked, prioritize dodging Sear over squeezing in extra damage.
3. Separate from teammates when Pyroclasm is cast.
4. Once the stun and ultimate are down, close distance and punish his lack of mobility.
