Lucian wins short, explosive trades by weaving abilities with Lightslinger and repositioning through Relentless Pursuit. Counter him by denying clean double-shot windows, forcing the dash defensively, and extending fights after his first burst has been spent.
Quick Counter
Best counter type: Dash tracking, burst survival, spacing, and extended-fight pressure
Biggest danger: Allowing him to unload a full ability-plus-double-shot sequence at close range
Best defensive response: Create enough distance to blunt the first burst and hold peel for Relentless Pursuit
Best punish window: After Relentless Pursuit and the first ability rotation are spent
Fight plan: Avoid the clean opener, force the dash, then stay on him through the cooldown gap before he can rebuild another burst cycle.
What Lucian wants
A short fight where he can weave every spell into a Lightslinger double shot.
Relentless Pursuit available to dodge a key spell or close the distance for lethal damage.
Targets already softened enough that The Culling or one burst cycle can finish them.
Opponents who back away after his first combo and give him time to reset.
How to beat Lucian
Do not stand at the exact range where Lucian can dash forward, unload a full combo, and retreat before you answer.
Force Relentless Pursuit with lower-value pressure when possible. Once the dash is gone, reliable crowd control becomes much easier to land.
If you survive the first burst, extend the fight. Lucian is much less comfortable while waiting for the next sequence than during the opening rotation.
Sidestep The Culling rather than running in a straight line. The channel loses a large amount of value if you can break its firing angle.
Best counter tools
Reliable crowd control after his dash is spent.
Range that forces him to use Relentless Pursuit simply to start a trade.
Durability or shields that survive the first burst and enable a longer exchange.
Movement tools that break The Culling line instead of retreating straight backward.
Power spikes
Early: His short-trade pattern is already strong if he gets to weave abilities and double shots freely.
Mid: Mobility and burst make isolated targets expensive mistakes, especially if the dash is always available.
Late: He remains dangerous, but longer fights and coordinated crowd control punish every wasted dash more severely.
Key abilities to track
Relentless Pursuit: This is both his safety valve and his way to create kill distance. Once it is spent, the next crowd-control attempt becomes much more reliable.
Lightslinger: Most of Lucian’s burst comes from weaving abilities into double shots. Shortening the number of clean weave cycles dramatically lowers his damage.
Best items into Lucian
Plated Steelcaps: A practical defensive boot choice when Lucian and the rest of the enemy composition create substantial physical and basic-attack pressure.
Stasis Enchant: Can deny the finishing portion of his burst or The Culling and buy time for teammates to collapse.
Guardian Angel: Useful for physical carries that need insurance against his first aggressive burst without abandoning offensive stats.
Common mistakes
Standing within easy dash-and-burst distance with no peel ready.
Using the main crowd-control spell before Relentless Pursuit is forced.
Backing off after surviving his first burst instead of exploiting the cooldown gap.
Running in a straight line through The Culling.
Fight them in this order
1. Hold enough distance that Lucian must spend Relentless Pursuit to create a clean trade.
2. Once he dashes, use reliable crowd control or sustained pressure immediately.
3. Survive the first weave cycle with shields or defensive tools if needed.
4. Extend the fight through his cooldown gap before another full burst sequence is ready.
